Freezer Repair Services
The sheer amount of food, and how much you spent on the food that’s currently stored in your freezer generally isn’t something you think about until you realize there’s something seriously wrong with the appliance.
Freezer Repair: It Won’t Start
Indicators that your freezer isn’t getting any power include:
- You don’t hear any sound coming from the freezer when you open the door
- Everything inside is starting to defrost
- The internal light, if the freezer has one, doesn’t turn on
When this happens to you, the first thing you want to do is check the outlet the freezer is plugged into and see if the unit is getting any power at all. If you don’t have a handheld voltage indicator, a quick way to determine if the outlet is working is by plugging a nightlight or some other low price electronic device into the outlet. If the device works, the problem is the freezer, and we should be able to help. If it doesn’t, you need to get an electrician out to work on your home’s wiring.
Reasons there may be power in the outlet but the freezer itself isn’t working includes:
- The freezer itself has an electrical problem
- The defrost timer isn’t working properly
- There’s something wrong with the freezer’s compressor
- The internal thermostat is damaged and needs to be replaced
- There’s a problem with the freezer’s overload or relay
The biggest headache for people who don’t have a strong understanding of freezer repair is pinpointing the exact problem so they can rectify it. If you’re unable to figure out why your freezer has stopped working, contact us. We have a highly trained, talented crew of freezer repair specialist standing by who will swiftly narrow down the cause.
If you call now, we can have your freezer running smoothly by the end of the day.
Freezer Repair: It’s not Cool Enough
One of the most common freezer repair problems we hear about is a freezer that’s running, but the interior isn’t staying cool enough so the food within the freezer is only half frozen.
When this happens to you, the first thing you need to look at is how you’ve loaded the freezer. If you’ve crammed too many packages of pork chops, frozen veggies, and ice cream containers in the freezer, the unit might not be able to properly circulate the air, which will result in an interior temperature that’s higher than you’d like. Rearranging and decreasing the contents should resolve the problem.
Another thing to check out is whether or not you’ve accidentally put something in front of the vents. If so, removing the offending item will once again allow the air to flow freely and you can resume using your freezer again. Call us for help at ️(800) 657-0765
If neither of those problems resolves the not cool enough freezer problem, other explanations sometimes include:
- The thermostat has been bumped and needs to be lowered
- The internal thermostat is broken
- The defrost mode is running too frequently
- The door isn’t sealing tightly enough
Check the Freezer’s Compressor
If none of these issues resolve the problem it’s time to get in touch with us. You will want to make arrangements to have us come out and check out the compressor motor. Most people don’t give the large part that’s attached to the back of the freezer a second thought, but we know that it’s a very important aspect to your freezer’s ability to preserve food. The compressor isn’t something you should try servicing on your own, it requires an experienced professional. Call us for help at ️(800) 657-0765
If one of our freezer techs comes to your home or business and decides that the reason your freezer isn’t staying cold enough isn’t due to a problem with your compressor, the next things they’ll check out are the freezer’s defrost timer and the overload/relay. Once the damaged part has been identified, it will be replaced, and your freezer will go back to keeping everything within it perfectly chilled.
Freezer Repair: The Iced Up Freezer
There’s an old episode of The Lucy Show where Lucy want’s to win a new freezer because her current one is nearly completely iced over. In television, this is funny. In real life it’s not a laughing matter.
If your freezer seems to have more frost than groceries inside of it, it’s time to defrost it. This can be done by unplugging the unit and letting it warm up, which causes the frost to melt. If the frost is back a few days later, you need to contact us. It’s possible that the freezer has a leak and needs to have new door seals installed, a project that only takes us a little while to complete.
Freezers that have a self-defrosting feature seem to be the most likely to suffer from excessive frost build up on the evaporator coil, but there have been instances when we’ve found that a malfunctioning self-defroster has also led to frost build up on the walls, content, and inside of the door of the freezer. The excessive frost builds up is created because the self-defrosting feature has failed. The frost on the evaporator coil is particularly worrisome because if it gets thick it gets thick enough, the circulating fan will no longer be able to draw air over the evaporator coils which results in no interior air flow, which in turn leads to an increase in the freezer’s internal temperature. Cindy Spencer –
Our freezer was making noise and not staying cold. My neighbor recommended AmeriPro so I called and made and appointment. The technician was on time, made the repair at a good fair price. He had all of the parts and was done and done well in around half hour. Nice job!
